Every miniature starts at the work table. A self-healing cutting mat, a metal ruler and a sharp craft knife do most of the work, turning thin strips of wood, card and plastic into window frames, trim, signs and railings.

Plans come first. Each piece is sketched to scale on paper, and measurements from the drawing are transferred directly to the materials, so every window and door lines up when the facade comes together.

Glue, primer and many thin coats of paint finish the job. Small brushes and fine pens add the lettering, linework and weathering that make a tiny building feel lived in, and a coat of sealant protects the finished surface.
