Building the Pokémon Center

Notes & process

This piece takes a building that only exists in the Pokémon games and turns it into a physical storefront. The first step was working out the design from game references, from the rounded red-striped roof and Poké Ball emblem to the proportions of the doors and windows, and redrawing it as a front view that would sit inside a shadow box.

The building came together from the ground up: the walls and arched doorway first, then the layered, striped roof, and finally the raised Poké Ball emblem on top. Smaller details, like the lantern lights beside the door, the paned windows and the Poké Mart sign, were made individually and added once the main structure was painted.

To finish, the base was landscaped with miniature hedges, planters and a stone path, and the completed scene was set into its frame.
