Like most of Yesenia’s storefronts, Bob’s Burgers started as a flat drawing. Working from reference images of the animated series, she sketched the facade and the restaurant’s interior to scale on paper, using a metal ruler to lock in the proportions of the windows, doors and counter before cutting a single piece.
The facade was built up in layers. Window frames, sills and the ornate bay-window trim were cut from thin strips of wood and card, assembled piece by piece on the cutting mat, then glued onto the green base so they stand out in relief. The bright cartoon palette was painted by hand in several coats, with fine black linework added last to echo the show’s drawn style.
The final step was the view inside. The interior was drawn and painted as its own small scene and set behind the front window, so the counter, stools and kitchen appear when you look in. The finished storefront was then mounted in a shadow box frame to protect every detail.
